More information : (Centred SE 83029812) Stones (NAT) (1) Row of Standing Stones - a row of five stones one of them 7ft high, two fallen, running in a north east direction from Simon Howe. (2) (SE 8302 9812) Standing Stones (NR) (3) The partly weathered stones are as described and vary between 1.0 and 2.4m in height. They are similar (on a smaller scale) to the Low Bride Stones (NZ 80 SW 1), which Elgee suggests are the remains of possibly early stone-walled fields. Surveyed at 1:10 000. (4)
Only four of the stones now remain, the southernmost having been removed. Scheduled, RSM Number: 35919. (5)
Five standing stones, which may represent the remains of an early walled field, or a stone alignment, possibly dating to the Bronze Age.
A line of three standing stones, of probable Bronze Age date, are visible as structures on air photographs, centred at SE 8302 9812. The features are extant on the latest 2009 vertical photography. (6) |
