Summary : Barrow group of five Bronze Age bowl barrows situated within the vicinity of the Wold Entrenchments, east of Toisland Farm and west of Wharram Percy Farm. Excavations between 1866 and 1883 located cremations, a crouched inhumation and finds including pottery, a bone pin and a flint knife. Field investigations in 1974 found most of the barrows to be ploughed out and visible as lsight earthworks. However, one survives as an earthwork with a diameter of 26 metres, and height of 1 metre. Later Prehistoric territorial boundary and cross dyke in close association. Scheduled.

(SE 83636345) A round barrow 44ft diameter and 18ins high.
Excavated in 1866 when two cremation burials, both with cinerary
urns were found. Other finds were several fragments of an urn
and a bone pin. Re-excavation in 1883 revealed nothing more.
(SE 83706348) A round barrow 70ft diameter and 5ft 4ins high.
Excavated in 1866 when a single crouched burial and a possible
cremation were seen. Other finds were the neck of a food vessel,
two jet studs and worked flints.
(SE 83766351) A round barrow 50ft diameter and 1ft high.
Excavated in 1866 when a cremation burial with cinerary urn and
several other burnt bones were seen. Re-excavation in 1883 revealed nothing more.
(SE (83836353) A round barrow 70ft diameter and 2ft 3 ins
high. Excavated in 1866 when a single crouched inhumation and a
cremation burial were seen. Other finds were a food vessel,
bone pricker and a flint knife. (2)

(SE 83636345) Ploughed through - no trace.
(SE 83706348) Ploughed through but still visible as an earthen
mound about 26.0m diameter 1.0m high.
(SE 83766351) Ploughed through - no trace.
(SE 83836353) Ploughed through and visible as a slight rise only.
