More information : Early 18th century garden based on the medieval motte and bailey. The garden development is probably related to the 18th century remodelling of Moot House. Features include a walled kitchen garden, lawn, sundial and a topiary yew feature - the Giants Chair on a terrace west of the lawn. The central area of the motte and bailey is mainly wooded with mature trees, crossed by paths and a central lime avenue running east-west with a brickwork bridge, dated 1815. Elevated curving ringwork walks are also present. A formal theatre, pool and loggia were constructed in 1897. (1)
The gardens were created circa 1720 and made use of the motte and bailey earthworks. Alterations took place during the 19th century. (2)
