Summary : Picturesque style gardens set within a landscape park at Scotney Castle. The gardens were laid out from 1835 by Edward Hussey and include a formal design of 1848-9, loosely based on a design by W A Nesfield. Between 1952-70 the gardens were further developed by Christopher Hussey. Additional planting, by Lanning Roper, dates to 1975. The park has been laid out by 1828 and had been extended by 1873. Woodland within the park was planted in the mid 19th century and from 1970 developed with woodland walks. |

Early mid C19 and mid C20 picturesque gardens and woodland of 7 1/2ha within park, woodland and agricultural estate of c.300ha. Acquired by the National Trust in 1970. (2)
