14th-century enclosed gardens with 18th-century planting at Greys Court House. These comprise a series of walled gardens enclosing features including pools and rose gardens. Other features include an 18th-century fountain, and a spring garden planted in 1951. The whole is surrounded by a landscape park including ornamental features and planting.(2)
The park has been surveyed archaeologically at Level 1. It includes some ornamental features including a prospect mount and ice house (see separate records SU 78 SW 52 and 53), the site of an obelisk, ponds and a viewing platform. It also preserves traces of hollow ways, cultivation remains, woodland banks and quarries (see separate records SU 78 SW 54, 55, 56 and 57). (3-4)
The park is 18th century in date. The walled gardens are 19th century in date, with earlier origins, further developed after the second world war by Sir Felix Brunner assisted by Humphrey Waterfield and Hilda Murrell. (5)
