Summary : This is the south east building of the Naval Hospital and was designed by Christopher Wren. Construction started in 1702 and was completed in 1728 by Vanbrugh. It is similar in plan and design to King William's Block (TQ 37 NE 80) and comprises dormitories and a chapel. The chapel was added between 1735-1743. The interior of the chapel was remodelled by James (Athenian) Stuart circa 1789 after being damaged by fire. Closed as a hospital in 1869 and reopened as a naval college in 1873. |
