CROPTON HALL GARTH

The remains of a motte and bailey castle, mentioned in 1334, but ruinous by 1349. Within the bailey are foundations of domestic buildings and a great hall of circa 1290 -95. The motte is 20 feet high and 50 yards in diameter with a triangular bailey covering some three acres. There is also a medieval trackway and a pond. Scheduled.
