More information : SE 77597349 - SE 78107311. A cropmark of the probable spread metalling of a Roman Road lies close to the old Thirsk - Malton railway line, north of Crabtree Lane, where the 75ft contour runs along the edge of the sands and gravels at the foot of the east-west limestone ridge. The road's alignment curves west to follow the ridge, whilst its south-eastern end heads for the north gate of the Roman fort. (1)
After examination of all available air photography, the crop mark feature recorded by Authority 1 is thought to be caused by different geological bands. (2) |
