Summary : Medieval Cistercian grange of Furness Abbey.
More information : (Area SD 932 575) Grange of Furness Abbey (Cistercian) at Friar Head associated with small mounds (SD 95 NW 11), Giant's Graves -pillow mounds (SD 95 NW 9) and field system (SD 05 NW 21)(1a). The present Friar's Head dates from circa 1670 (see SD 95 NW 27) but may be on or near the site of the earlier grange buildings.(1)
