The church of St Mary of Hemingbrough was given by the Conqueror to the Prior and convent of Durham. In 1426 it was converted to a college. (2)

Church of St. Mary. Very fine Mediaeval church consisting of nave with clerestorey, aisles and central tower with spire. Transepts. Chancel with south aisle. Mainly C13. Norman font. Early C16 pews. C14 screenwork. The church became collegiate in 1426. (4)
