Summary : A late 18th-early 19th century corn watermill and mill house which were built on the foundations of the monastic watermill which served Easby Abbey. The mill is built from coursed rubble with a stone slate roof and is comprised of two storeys. The watermill operated into the 1950s, latterly generating electricity for the hamlet of Easby with a turbine which is still in position in the wheelchamber, until it was replaced by the National Grid. The buried remains of the foundations of the monastic mill are Scheduled whilst the remainder of the building is Listed Grade II. |
