Summary : Site of Benedictine Priory attached to the Church of St Lawrence, (SE62SW5). St Lawrence's Church was granted to Selby by Gerard, shortly after he became Archbishop of York in 1101, and in it, 2 monks were to celebrate Mass there twice weekly, although they were not resident. In 1310 it was ordained that two monks and a secular priest should reside at Snaith. One of the monks was called prior and at the suppression there were 2 monks and 3 secular priests resident. |
