Summary : A Motte, with the slight remains of stone keep, thought to have been a possible hunting lodge of Hatfield Chase. Scheduled. The feature is visible as an earthwork on air photographs.
More information : SE 6895 1334. Peel Hill [G.T.]. (1) A motte with partly visible foundations of a stone keep known as Peel Hill. The castle may have been a hunting lodge of Hatfield Chase. Scheduled. (2-4) Published survey (25") unchanged. A well preserved motte, correctly described above. The foundations of the stone keep are very slight. (5) Listed by Cathcart King (6) A medieval motte and possible moat are visible as earthworks on air photographs centred at SE 6894 1333. The motte measures approximately 49m in diameter and appears to be surrounded by a broad, shallow ditch. It is unclear whether this feature does represent a moat. To the north is a curvilinear hollow which may also be an associated earthwork. (7)
