More information : SE 5409 8558. Tumulus (NR).
(1)

An ancient mound situated in a pasture field about 31 chains west of
Old Byland Grange.
(2)

Human remains were recently found in a tumulus in a field called Hill
Field. (There appears to be no other in the parish than that
published above).
(3)

An earth and stone mound (about 1m high and 20m diameter) in a
ploughed field. According to the farmer at Old Byland Grange the
field is still known locally as Round Hill Field. A few inches below
the surface of the mound it is composed completely of stones. No
finds have ever been made to his knowledge but it seems highly likely
that this is the site referred to by Whellan. Published Survey (25")
Revised.
(4)

SE 541 856. Round barrow 1070m west of Old Byland Grange.

NY/25582.
