| Summary : A late 19th century powder magazine at Skelton Park Ironstone Mine in which blasting gunpowder was stored. The magazine is hidden in a small quarry with a blast wall around it made from boiler seating bricks. The building is constructed from brick with a slate covered double gabled roof, and has a low extension at one end which may have contained detonators or squibs while the main part housed boxes of cartridges. A notice on the door stated that the magazine was licensed to contain two tons of explosives. |

The mine is intact and the shells of the buildings are in a fairly good condition and could be converted into an industrial museum for the area. (3) |
