Summary : The provender house at Skelton Park Ironstone Mine was built in 1872 to prepare and store feed for horses here and at other Bell Brothers ironstone mines. It is a roofless two storey building constructed from rockfaced sandstone with tooled and margined dressings, roughly coursed rubble returns and the rear originally had a slate roof. At the turn of the 20th century a brick built extension was added to the north east end of the house. This building was erected to house the saddle makers shop that was used for repairing all the leather horse equipment. At the rear of the provender house was a single storey brick built extension which was probably built to contain the Westinghouse electric motor which drove the maize and oat crunchers and the hay chopper. |
