Summary : Extant in 1066 according to Leland, it was granted to the Cluniac Priory of Pontefract in 1090. In 1438, Henry VI granted the hospital and its estates to Nostell Priory. 14 men and one woman were granted pensions in 1552. After 1605, the hospital became a charity of Pontefract, and was extant until at least the early 20th century. The site was covered by houses in 1963. |
More information : [SE 4615 2246] ST. NICHOLAS' HOSPITAL [G.T.] (Site of). (1) St. Nicholas' Hospital, possibly of pre-Conquest Foundation, was not suppressed at the Dissolution. In 1673 it was rebuilt in its present form. (2-3) Modern houses now occupy the site of the Hospital. (4)
