Summary : Thrintoft Grange appears to have been a lesser grange of Jervaulx Abbey, and the only surviving Medieval building is the chapel. The remains of the chapel are apparently 13th century. The walls, containing three original window openings and a piscina, are intact, but the whole is in a dilapidated condition. Earthworks in the pastures to the North and West of the chapel, including a small rectangular enclosure, are visible on air photograph. Following the suppression of the abbey in 1537 the estate was let to John Stane who held the house and garden there. |
