St Andrews Church

Hob Uid: 527277
Location :
Lincolnshire
East Lindsey
East Barkwith
Grid Ref : TF1754878948
Summary : A former parish church, then a hay barn, now a dwelling, built in the 18th century with later alterations and restoration. The church consisted a nave, chancel and bellcote with interior painted roof. The building was constructed of greenstone and ironstone rubble blocks with some limestone and red brick. The roofs are plain and pantiled with brick gables.18th century round headed windows can be seen in the north and south side of the nave and east end of the chancel. Several 18th century gravestones also survive, one with the name Elizabeth Grace, died 1721 suggesting the listed date of around 1770 for construction is incorrect or the gravestone was reset. The church was restored in 1905 when the chancel arch was built and then again around 1925 to 1930 by Christopher Turnor. The brick gables were inserted in the early 20th century perhaps indicating the change of use to a hay barn and the building was further altered in 1980 when the west end doorway and doors were inserted. Listed.
