More information : SE 3637 1626. Walton Hall [T.I.]. (1) Licence to crenellate "Walton Mansum" was granted to Thomas de Burgh in 1335. The old hall was pulled down and replaced by the present building in 1767-8 leaving only the medieval water gate. The gateway has a central and two flanking towers and is surmounted by a cross. (2-4)
Walton Hall, a Georgian mansion, is now in use as a hospital. The Water Gate, at SE 3640 1630, is in good condition. The flanking towers are a 19th century addition. GPs. AO/58/302/8 and AO/58/303/1. (5)

Measured drawings were prepared of the gatehouse of Walton Hall. This structure, originally carrying a drawbridge over the moat, was constructed in accordance with a licence to crenellate of 1333. (8-9)
