Summary : The buildings at Barton Farm include the granary of the monastic grange laid out by the Abbess of Shaftesbury in the early 14th century. The two-storey building is constructed of ashlar with weatherboarding to the side walls. The most important feature of this building is the fine timber roof, of similar construction to that in the north wing of Barton Farmhouse. The granary roof has two purlins on each side with arched wind-braces and is divided into three bays by heavy principals with arched braces and couples. The upper floor is entered through an outside door reached by a flight of stone steps on the west side. |
