Summary : Underground railway station, opened as Eastcheap on the 6th October 1884. It was renamed The Monument on 1st November 1884, but since then the prefix has gradually been dropped. In 1933 an escalator interchange opened between Monument and Bank, with Monument station signs carrying the suffix "for Bank".
