Summary : Railway station, opened on 31st March 1858 by the London, Tilbury and Southend Railway. Underground services arrived here on 2nd June 1902 when the District Railway extended its line from Whitechapel to Bromley (now Bromley-by-Bow) by building the Whitechapel and Bow Railway where it joined the London Tilbury and Southend Railway's line to Upminster. In 1936 the Metropolitan (now Hammersmith and City) opened a service along the Distict line from Whitechapel to Barking, with Plaistow serving as an intermediate station. The station is now solely used for Underground trains. |
