Summary : Wimbledon railway station was opened by the London and Southampton Railway on 21st May 1838. Underground services arrived here on 3rd June 1889 when terminating platforms were provided for the District Railway's extension over the Thames from Putney Bridge and Fulham (now Putney Bridge) to Wimbledon.
