Summary : Hounslow East opened as Hounslow Town on 2nd May 1909 following the closure of the first Hounslow Town station in the same year. This new station on the Hounslow branch of the District line is believed to have been designed by Harry Ford. It was renamed Hounslow East in 1925 and was first served by Piccadilly line trains in 1933. District trains ceased operating to Hounslow East in 1964. The present Houslow East station dates from a complete rebuilding which began in 2000. A virtually new station has been built within the existing infrastructure to designs by Acanthus Lawrence and Wrightson Architects. Phase 1 of the scheme, which was completed in July 2002, required the excavation of the existing embankment and provides a new ticket hall with ancillary accommodation, interchange passageway and stairs to each platform. The second phase involved the construction of the eastbound platform building, completed early 2003. |
