Summary : Hainault was opened on 1st May 1903 by the Great Eastern Railway on their Ilford-Woodford loop line. For the Central line projection from Liverpool Street, as set out in the 1935-40 New Works Programme, Hainault station was partly rebuilt with a circular ticket hall and a new waiting room. A new island platform replaced the old eastbound, and three girder bridges (five tracks) spanned New North Road to accommodate the platform tracks and a headshunt for Hainault depot. Hainault opened to serve Central line trains on 31st May 1948.
