Summary : Railway station, one of the original stations built on the Great Western Railway, opened in 1839. 'Underground' train services arrived here in 1883 when a short-lived extension was introduced to Windsor from Ealing Broadway over the tracks of the Great Western Railway. This service was withdrawn in 1885. West Drayton is of some importance in GWR history, as it was not only the site of one of the original stations, but also the locomotive headquarters in the early days. The first two engines to work on the railway, 'Premier' and 'Vulcan', were given trials here after being delivered by sea and canal in 1837. |
