Summary : Railway station, opened as Shaftesbury Road on 1st April 1873 by the London and South Western Railway. Underground services arrived here on 1st June 1877 when the District Railway extended the line west of Hammersmith to connect with the L&SWR tracks from Hammersmith (Grove Road) to Richmond. Metropolitan services arrived on 1st October 1877 when it opened a branch from Shepherd's Bush via Hammersmith (Grove Road) on L&SWR tracks to Richmond. The Metropolitan services were withdrawn on 31st december 1906.
