Summary : Alperton underground station opened on 28th June 1903 as Perivale-Alperton to serve the District line. It was renamed Alperton on 7th October 1910. Between 1931-2 it was rebuilt and transferred to the Piccadilly line as part of its extension programme. The rebuilding was designed and detailed by Charles Holden and the working drawings done in the office of the Underground Chief Architect Stanley Heaps, who then arranged the building contract and carried out the work. The design and finish of the platforms, footbridges, etc was the responsibility of Heaps with Holden acting as consultant. Flanked by kiosks, the double height ticket hall is sqaure in plan and constructed from brick and concrete with a concrete slab roof. Stairs lead from the ticket hall up to the to the platforms; the ticket hall being located at the bottom of an embankment. |
