More information : Sedgwick House is centred at SD 5102 8701 on the western edge of Sedgwick village. It was built in 1868 by William Henry Wakefield as a replacement for the earlier family house (also called Sedgwick House; see SD 58 NW 42) which lay a little to the north-west (1a). The house - which was built in the Gothic style to designs by Paley and Austin of Lancaster - was requisitioned by the Government in the Second World War, and subsequently became a special school run by Lancashire County Council. The school closed in 1987, since when the building has been sold and converted into private flats (1b). (1) |
