Summary : A Neolithic stone axe was found in April 1951 in the garden of a house in Thornlea Grove, and is now in Cartwright Hall Museum (accession number NH 43.51).

The address given, formerly stood at SE 12503204 (a) The house has now been demolished, and the neighbourhood redeveloped. The museum records state that the axe (acc. No. NH 43.51) was found in April 1951 by Master B. Elsworth. (2)

SE128319. Thornlea Grove Clayton. Polished stone axe found in garden of 6 Thornlea Grove, Clayton, in April 1951; 9.2cm long, 5.7cm wide, 2.5cm thick. Group VI. Bradford Museum (NH 43.51). Additional bibliographic references. (3)

The stone axe was found by Brian Elsworth a 9 year old schoolboy who donated to Cartwright Hall. (4)
