Summary : Early Medieval lead box and cross found in the south aisle of St Augustine's Abbey during excavations in 1924. The items were found 7 feet below the surface and 10 feet due west of the south west corner of Ethelbert's church. The cross measured 6" long and just over 5" wide and bore a Latin inscription. This translated as 'On the 11th March 1063 departed out of this life Wlfmaeg, sister of Wlfric the Abbot' and is, therefore, identified as the burial cross of the sister of Abbot Wulfric.
