Summary : Benedictine nunnery referred to at Newington at the end of the 11th century. Nothing further is known about it.
More information : A small house of nuns in Newington Manor is said to have existed c. end of the 11th century. The prioress was apparently strangled in in her bed by her cook, and as a result the king took over the manor and removed the nuns to Sheppey or Minster. Nothing else is known of this monastery of Newington, and it seems likely that it
may have been merely a refuge of some of the nuns from Sheppey. (1,2)
