More information : Harty: Late Bronze Age hoard (a)(b). Harty, Isle of: 29 objects; socketed axes, gouges, hog-back knife, founder's appliances, founder's metal. (In Ashmolean Museum.) The Isle of Harty hoard may be fairly described as the stock-in-trade of an ancient bronze founder [items listed]. (1-3) The great importance of the discovery of the Isle of Harty hoard lies in the valuable information it gives as to the methods adopted in casting bronze. (4) Local enquiries failed to produce any information this hoard. (5) A bronze hoard, comprising thirty-two pieces, was found in a drainage trench at a waterside site on the Isle of Harty c. 1873. Items found included a tubular toggle reminiscent of a hallstat background, some items from the late Bronze Age carp's-tongue sword complex and a few which may be of earlier date. (6)
