More information : A (SD 90273409), B (SD 90203412), C (SD 90133414) Tumuli (NR). (1) A. Ring mound (circle of 7 stones) excavated in 1887, was found to contain a completely disintergrated urn, a large quantity of human bones and a flint battleaxe, now in the possession of Mr Towneley Parker of Cuerden Hall. B. Tumulus (Earth circle) about 8 yds in diameter and well defined, excavated and burnt bones found. C. Ring mound (circle of seven stones) previously undisturbed, contained an unglazed urn, 14ins by 11 1/2 ins diameter, with the calcined bones of an adult and child, and a bronze pin. A compact mass of charcoal with small bones, quite independent of the central burial, was found just inside the circle. (2-5) Tumulus at "B" resurveyed at 1:2500. (6) SD 9020 3412.
