Hob Uid: 461634
Location :
Isle of Wight
Havenstreet and Ashey
Grid Ref : SZ5652091460
Summary : Newnham Grange was the home grange of Quarr Abbey. The present farmhouse was built on the site in the 17th century. A fishpond associated with the grange is still extant.
More information : (SZ 56529146). Newnham, or Ninham, was the home grange of Quarr Abbey. The present house dates from the mid-17th cent., but has been greatly modernised. (1)

The farmhouse known as Newnham belongs to the Fleming Estate. I have heard that it was a Grange of Quarr Abbey. (a) Newnham is a typical Isle of Wight Jacobean L-shaped farmhouse, much modernised, especially by the insertion of sash windows. None of the farm buildings ante-date the house. (2)

No change. Not outstanding. (3)

Newnham Farmhouse. C17th, enlarged in the C18th. Grade 2. (5)

There is a monastic fishpond associated with the grange to the west of Newnham Farm at SZ 5645 9145. (6,7)
