Summary : Two undated enamelled copper alloy fibulae were found at Holme in 1773. A gold torc was also found in the same area. This was made from twisted gold wire, had a diameter of 130 millimetres and dates to the 4th-3rd century BC.
More information : 'In 1773, two copper (bronze?) fibulae were found above Holme, near Burnley. No account of there shape or dimensions has been preserved, but they were said to be beautifully enamelled.' (1) '...which were turned up in getting stones for the turnpike road above Holme.' (2-3) SD 8728 Holme. Gold torc. 130mm diameter, made from twisted wire of low grade gold; c4th-3rd century BC. In Manchester Museum. (4)
