More information : [SY 57878503] Dovecot [GT] (1) The Pigeon House is a gabled rectangular building of uncertain date, but was much altered in the 17th or 18th centuries. The interior is divided by a cross-wall and is fitted with nests. (2) Scheduled as an Ancient monument. (3) A stone dovecot which is a relic of the monastery. (4) A rectangular-shaped, stone-built dovecot with tiled and stone roof and modern attic-type windows. There are two small square doorways with stone surrounds on the north side. The interior could not be inspected. Dates in Source 2 accepted. (5) Pigeon House. Rubble and tiled. Coped gables. Oblong plan. Medieval in origin but repaired and re-roofed in 17th century. Grade II. (6) SY 5785 ABBOTSBURY CHURCH STREET, EAST SIDE 10/18 Pigeon House. 26.1.56 GV II* Pigeon House. C15 with C18 alterations. Rubble-stone walls. Stone gable-copings with scrolled kneelers, C18. Re-used apex-blocks. Clay-tile roof with stone slabs at the eaves. Two 2-light dormers with hipped tile roofs and 2 metal louvres over. 2 low doors, evenly spaced on south wall, 1.2m high and 600mm wide. Chamfered jambs and head. plank doors with strap-hinges.
