OLD LOWER BRIDGE

A packhorse bridge over the River Hodder which was erected in 1562 on the supposed site of an earlier bridge of circa 1329 date known from documentary sources. The current bridge is constructed from sandstone ashlar and is comprised of three segmental arches, with the middle arch being wider. It is approximately 2.1 metres wide withou parapets or rails.
