Summary : Church, formerly a dependency of Modbury Priory. Mainly early 14th century in date but refenestrated in the 15th century. More information : (SX 65605155) St George's Church (CofE) (NAT) (1) CIVIL PARISH OF MODBURY A Church of St. George A large and impressive fabric in the local manner built of slate with some later granite detail. It is of C.12 origin. The aisles were added in C.13 and widened in late medieval period. The C.13 tower has a broach spire. Plastered wagon roofs. Crypt below sanctuary. The nave arcades are late C.13. Effigies C.14 and C.15. Two C.17 mural monuments of character. Two fine late C.17 heraldic ledger stones. (2)
