More information : SD 639748. Iron Age/Romano-British settlement, Collingholme. Scheduled. The site comprises a sub-rectangular, low-banked enclosure, 80 x 80m, cut off on the north-west side by a field road serving Collingholme Farm. To the north-east the enclosure is scooped into a slight scarp and on the south west there is an earth bank about 1.50m. high. Little trace of any enclosing bank can be seen on the south east side. Within the enclosure are a number of hut circles and platforms, mainly cluttered around the edges of the enclosure. There is one central, raised paddock with a well-defined hut platform attached to it. The earthworks are slight, but consistent with the 'Cumbrian' type of settlement. (1)
