More information : SD 610685. An earthwork opposite Tatham Hall Farm, on the opposite side of the Wray-Wennington road (B 6480) was discovered on a private air photograph taken 1973/4 (see sketch plan). (1) The alleged earthwork mentioned in authority 1 is situated on a small hillock at SD 61106848. It appears to have no distinct pattern but it may represent the amorphous remains of a pastoral enclosure. (2) Scheduled as an Iron Age or Romano-British enclosure. It is a roughly oval banked enclosure, 70m by 40m, and contains a series of small circular level platforms, possibly hut circles. (3)
SD 6108 6846. Prehistoric defended enclosure and six adjacent hut circles at Tatham Park. Scheduled RSM No 23764. The main hilltop enclosure measures approx 70m x 50m and is divided into two parts by a linear stone and earth bank 2m-3m wide and up to 1.5m high in places. It is roughly oval in shape with its boundary bank being curvilinear on the N side and more angular on the S. There are three entrances, one at the mid-point of the E side giving access directly into the N part and through a passageway into the S part, and two on the W and SW sides giving access into the S part of the enclosure. Internally there is a sub-circular scooped enclosure at the NE side of the N part and traces of a slightly banked enclosure at the NW side of the S part. Externally a low bank curves from the S side of the enclosure in a NW direction for approx 40m. On the hillside below and outside the enclosure there are six levelled circular platforms interpreted as hut circles. Two are located to the W of the main enclosure, one to the N, and three to the E. Surrounding the base of the hillock on all sides except the S, and thus enclosing the hut circles and the main enclosure, is a defensive ditch 4m-14m wide and 0.5m deep. On the S side a small stream affords defence. (4)
