More information : (SX 14487998) Stone Circle (NR) (1) The Fernacre stone circle, situated 3 furlongs west north west of Fernacre farmhouse, is about 149 ft in diameter, diverging slightly from a true circle on its north west and south east sides.It consists of a total of 68 (2) or 69 (3), granite stones, with three more inside the circle. Of these, 38 or 39 are still standing, the remainder are prostrate or sunk into the peat. Some could only be found by probing and digging. The highest erect stone stands 4.4 ft above ground level, and one of the prostrate stones measures 6.9 ft in length. (2-3) SX 14477998. The stone circle remains as described. Resurveyed at 1:2500. (4) A type D flattened circle 151 ft by 142 ft, see plan. There are over 70 local granite stones in the circle, none more than 4 ft 6 ins in height, with 39 still standing.
