The published entry is almost certainly erroneous. No documentary
evidence can be found for a castle at this site although vague
speculations about a possible residence of the Hiwas family in the
area are mentioned by Polwhele (18th c) and Hitchins and Drew (e.19th
c) in their Cornish histories.
The published site has no defensive potential. Two small overgrown
areas (1/2 acre and 1/3rd acre) are enclosed with drystone walling
unlikely to be earleir than the 18th c. (2)
