Summary : The house known as the Old Rectory was built in 1851. The medieval moat is well preserved and was probably for drainage as much as defence. The old parsonage house was built and moated round with rivers and fishponds in the second half of the 15th century by John Arundell. The Rectory was built as a bishop's palace in 1851 by William White (1825-1900) with a few later alterations.

The old parsonage house was built and moated round with rivers and fishponds in the second half of the 15th century by John Arundell. (2)
The square moat which surrounded the Medieval Rectory 'remains in its original form' although the house was completely rebuilt in the mid 19th century. (3)
The house known as the Old Rectory was built in 1851. The moat is well preserved and was probably for drainage as much as defence.
Published survey correct. (4)

The Rectory was built as a bishop's palace in 1851 by William White (1825-1900) with a few later alterations. The building is assymmetrical in plan built around an inner courtyard and surrounded by a moat. (5)
