More information : An oval-shaped ditched enclosure at SD 52736238 situated on a small promontory overlooking the steep sided Lythe Brow Wood (? possibly defensive). (1) SD 527624. A roughly circular settlement site on Askew Heights, measuring at its fullest extent 98m N-S and 89m E-W has been scheduled as an Iron Age or Romano-British settlement site. (2) SD 5272 6239. Askew Heights univallate prehistoric defended enclosure and hollow way. Scheduled RSM No 23760. The enclosure has internal measurements of approx 77m N-S x 70m E-W and is defended by a shallow ditch c.11m wide. There are two entrances, on the N and S sides. On the enclosure's SW side and commencing adjacent to the S entrance there is a distinct counterscarp bank approx 5m wide which becomes steeper on the W side of the site until it forms a deep hollow way up to 14m wide which is interpreted as a trackway comtemporary with the enclosure. The hollow way deepens as it moves clockwise from the SW of the site and is then cut tangentially away from the enclosure and across and down the hillslope towards Lythe Brow Wood. (3)
