More information : SD 573663. Iron Age/Romano-British settlement north of Manor House Farm. Scheduled. The site comprises three enclosures, the main one being D-shaped with maximum dimensions of 80 x 80m. A single shallow ditch has a slight counterscarp bank to the north, but there is no clear sign of an internal bank. To the north west the ditch is cut through by a hollow way, forming an entrance to the site, which leads off down the hillslope. There is a further slighter enclosure adjoining the main D-shaped one. SD 5727 6633. Univallate prehistoric defended enclosure, hollow way & secondary enclosure 250m N of Claughton Hall. Scheduled RSM No 23761. The prehistoric enclosure is approx D-shaped a measures c.58mx 57m max internally. It is defended by a shallow ditch up to 9m wide with a slight counterscarp bank between 3m and 10m wide and up to 0.4m high on the N and SW sides. At the centre of the enclosure there is an oval shaped terraced area measuring 17m x 14m which is interpreted as a hut circle or hut platform. It has been cut into the slight hillslope and has a shallow ditch on its S side. There is an entrance on the NW side of the enclosure from which a hollow way 10m to 15m wide runs downhill towards the valley bottom for a short distance. Adjacent to the W side of the main enclosure there is a sub-rectangular secondary enclosure measuring 70m x 45m at its widest points and defended by a slight ditch on its NW and SW sides. (2)
