St Cohans Church

Hob Uid: 428769
Location :
Cornwall
St. Michael Penkevil
Grid Ref : SW8624044740
Summary : Medieval Church
More information : (SW 86244474) St. Cohans Church (Vicarage) (NAT). (1)

The church of St Cohan or Coanus was a chapelry to Probus until
1866 when it became a vicarage. In 1900 it was consolidated with
Lamorran Rectory (SW 84 SE 11), but a more conveniently situated
church was built at Tresillian Bridge (SW 87024648) in 1904, and
the bells, 12th century font and 17th pulpit removed there. The
old church became a mortuary chapel.

The building, which is now disused and in a state of decay, is
mainly 15th century, with an earlier core. There is a thin two
stage west tower and two Norman window openings in the north wall,
one with a 14th century window inserted. (2-4)
