More information : A portion of coped stone is near the S. side of Phillack church tower. It was discovered in 1856 to have been used as a step in the church porch. Length 3' 10"; about 1/3 of the stone is missing. (1)
The stone has been called a hog-back, but is more like a solid tomb-cover, in which case its date is probably about the 9th century. If a hog-back it would be a little earlier than 1100. (2)
The stone is at SW 5652 3841. See AO/62/147/1 for photograph from the S.E. (3)
Priest's coped tombstone. (4)
This is a rare type of tombstone in Cornwall. The upper face has been shaped to form sloping sides from a central rounded bead, giving it a triangular shape in section. (5)
Although described sometimes as a hogback, this bears no resemblance to the known hogback stones. (6)
