More information : Site of Blackfriars (Dominican) House. Founded 1318. Dissolved 1538. Apparently moved to new sites in 1339, 1342 and 1358. Settled at this site 1358. Sited from plan. Foundations still exist. (1-2)
No trace of Blackfriars at site indicated by Auth. 1 and 2 (TQ90401756). Local information states that the ruin at TQ90311731 is Blackfriars which was formerly in use as a barn. The jamb of a pointed arch in the SW corner and cellars indicate an early but indeterminate date. (3)
(TQ 90321738 - sited from HHR map) Rectory Lane, Winchelsea. II Barn belonging to Mill Farm, opposite the Methodist Church.
*Ancient Monument. Stone rubble with a corrugated iron roof. Beneath this Barn is a vaulted cellar of about 1300, for which the Barn is listed. (4)
